Acid and alkali resistance of polyester and polyamide filter cloths

Polyester and polyamide are two materials that are frequently used in industrial filtration applications. Their special physical and chemical properties make them indispensable to many industries. The following will discuss on the acid and alkali resistance of these materials.


Polyester is suitable for a range of pH working conditions, from 3 to 8. In acidic environments, polyester filter cloth performs reliably and is not easily corroded by acid. At the same time, in the weak alkaline non-high temperature environment, polyester filter cloth can also maintain its filtration function and physical properties.


Polyester filter cloth is divided into two types: polyester filament and polyester staple fibre. Polyester filament filter cloth features a smooth surface, excellent abrasion resistance, high strength, good air permeability, rapid water leakage and effortless cleaning. In comparison, the raw material structure of polyester staple fibre filter cloth is characterized by short, woolly fibers, and the woven fabric is dense, exhibiting effective particle retention, though with poor peeling and air permeability.


Polyamide, as known as nylon, is a synthetic fibre that is renowned for its high strength, good abrasion resistance and excellent alkali resistance. Polyamide filter cloths are particularly effective in resisting alkalis and are able to maintain stable filtration performance and physical properties in strong alkaline environments. Meanwhile, nylon filter cloth also has a certain degree of weak acid resistance, which allows it to achieve a good filtration effect in some acidic environments.


It is important to note that nylon filter cloths have limitations in terms of light resistance. When exposed to sunlight for extended periods, nylon filter cloths may become discoloured and brittle, which can impact their service life and filtration efficiency.


In addition, nylon filter cloth is also divided into different types, such as PA monofilament and multifilament. PA monofilament filter cloth has a smooth surface, is not easily blocked and has high filtration efficiency, which makes it suitable for situations that require high precision filtration.
